Can Grandparents get visitation in Minnesota?
As a grandparent myself, I know the relationship between a grandparent and a grandchild can be one of great joy and importance for both grandparent and youngster. But sometimes an event such as a parent’s death, divorce, or estrangement can tear families apart and alter or sever relationships. Sometimes the child’s parents or guardian may block any further contact with grandparents, who may in turn take legal steps to maintain contact with the children they love. Minnesota law recognizes the rights of grandparents to have reasonable visitation with their grandchildren, and they may seek the help of the court (See MN Statute 257C). Custody is a totally different and more complex discussion and we are here to help you sort through these legal issues with your grandchildren.
